A primer on Arthurian Lore

RT Interview

Sherri did an interview for RT magazine with Blaise from Sword of Darkness, but due to space limitations, it had to be edited. Therefore, we're adding the interview here:

I have to say that living a double life is extremely hard. I’m never quite sure where Kinley MacGregor ends and Sherrilyn Kenyon begins. But then I don’t guess that matters since we’re both two sides of the same person. And with that in mind, I thought it would be fun as Sherrilyn Kenyon to interview Kinley’s hero from her latest book.

With a degree of reserve since I have to admit to having a vicious crush on Kerrigan, I open the door to the room, expecting to see the man himself in all his hot, sexy glory. What I find is Blaise who is also hot and sexy, but nowhere near as dark. Kerrigan for the record has black hair and changing eye color while Blaise’s is white-blond with lavender eyes. Blaise is also a mandrake which is a shapeshifting dragon. Their race was once free until Morgen le Fey enslaved them to her.

Realizing that I’m not going to see the elusive Kerrigan, I sit down at the table and start my recorder.

SK “Hi, Blaise. Where’s the boss?”

Blaise: “You know him. He couldn’t be bothered. Besides, I like the spotlight. Nothing like having a big bulls eye on my chest. Shoot here, enemies. G’head.”

SK “You are a bit suicidal that way. I guess it comes from hanging out with Kerrigan.”

Blaise: “Absolutely. Only a complete idiot would befriend a man who lives to disembowel people.”

SK: “That being said, my question to you is how did you two meet?”

Blaise: “I was a gift from the (edited for PG reasons, but he meant Morgen) who thought I would amuse Kerrigan as he roasted me alive.”

SK “You seem rather hale for a roasted mandrake.”

Blaise: “What can I say? I’m highly entertaining alive. Besides, he figured that by living, I’d irritate Morgen more than my death would amuse him.”

SK “Uh-huh. Kinley tells me that you guys have a lot of unusual powers such as the ability to time-travel. Would you care to explain?”

Blaise: “Not really. Suffice it to say that we’re magical in nature and exist in a realm outside of time and place which allows us certain liberties with the laws of nature.”

SK “Okay, so as Kerrigan’s right hand man, what would you like to tell readers about him?”

Blaise: “What I’d like to tell you is that he’s an amoral homicidal bastard who finds pleasure in pulling your nostrils off, but as he knows all, what I’m going to say is he’s an all around good guy. The kind of guy you’d like to date your daughter.”

SK “Somehow you don’t sound very sincere.”

Blaise: “Notice I’ve lived a very long life. Insincerity is my middle name. I find it helps me to survive in Morgen’s court. Please note, it’s not called the Circle of the Damned for nothing.”

SK “And Kerrigan is the king of the circle, correct?”

Blaise: “Babe, he’s the king of Camelot and would be ruler of the earth if those goody two-shoes known as the Lords of Avalon weren’t around.”

SK “And who are the LOA?”

Blaise: “In theory, they’re what are left of King Arthur’s knights. In practicality, they’re cannon fodder for Kerrigan.”

SK “I’ve heard he has plans for global domination.”

Blaise: “You heard right.”

SK “Do you think he’s going to succeed?”

Blaise: “I’ve never known him to fail, but...”

SK “But?”

Blaise: He looks about a bit sheepishly before he turns off the recorder. “Listen, this is strictly off the record, but the king of the bad asses has recently come across the one thing that I think can bring him to his knees.”

SK “Really?”

Blaise: “Oh yeah. She’s a saucy little thing who is stupid enough to stand up to him. He’s never had that before.”

SK “And who do you think will win this battle?”

Blaise: “Hell if I know. But the fireworks are highly entertaining.”
