Q:What's the difference between comics and manga?

A:Manga is the Japanese word for comic and is a different art form. Aside from the stylistic differences, manga is published in black and white trade books that are much longer than the traditional thin American comics that are in full color.

Each medium is beautiful in its own right and since I learned to read with Spiderman comics, I'm thrilled to see my own work in this form.

Q:What is the difference between comic books and graphic novels?

A:Comic books are serials that tell an ongoing story in segments. Graphic Novels are novels told in graphic form. They have a beginning, a middle and an end. In the LOA graphic novels, these are a compilation of the 6 issue comic book run. So if you buy the graphic novel, you don't need to buy the individual comic book novels.

Q:Which is your favorite, comics or manga?

A:Both. I grew up reading both and love them dearly. I have no real favorite.

Q:What is your favorite comic book series?

A:That's hard. I've always been a huge Grendel fan, but only the Hunter Rose Grendel. I also love The Crow, Flaming Carrot, A Distant Soil and then the usual run of superheros such as Green Lantern, Spiderman, Ghostrider, Iron Man. But I have to say that out of the superheroes I do have a favorite above all others. Batman. I've always been a sucker for any and all incarnations of my caped crusader.
